For most visitors, entering Türkiye is straightforward — but the rules differ by passport, and a small mistake can mean turning back at the gate. Here is what you need to know.

Do you need a visa for Türkiye?

Türkiye has three categories:

  • Visa-free — citizens of Germany, France, Italy, Spain, Greece, Japan, South Korea, and around 80 other countries can enter for up to 90 days without any visa.
  • eVisa eligible — citizens of the UK, US, Canada, Australia, the Netherlands, Belgium, Saudi Arabia, the UAE, and many others need an eVisa, obtained online before travel.
  • Embassy visa — a smaller list of nationalities must apply at a Turkish consulate.

Always confirm your specific passport's status on the official portal or with our team before booking flights.

How to apply for a Türkiye eVisa

  1. Visit the official portal (evisa.gov.tr) — never use unofficial "fast-track" sites that charge double.
  2. Enter your nationality, passport details, and travel dates.
  3. Pay the fee by credit card (typically $35–$60 depending on nationality).
  4. Receive the eVisa by email within minutes.
  5. Print it or save it on your phone — border officers will check.

Common eVisa mistakes

  • Passport validity — your passport must be valid for at least 6 months from your entry date. This is the single most common reason travellers are denied boarding.
  • Name spelling — the eVisa must exactly match your passport. A missing middle name causes problems.
  • Single-entry vs multiple-entry — check which one your nationality gets. Many are single-entry only.
  • 90-day rule — the eVisa allows 90 days in any 180-day period, not 90 consecutive days every visit.

Arriving in Türkiye

On arrival at IST or SAW, present your passport and eVisa (printed or on your phone) at passport control. There is no separate fee on arrival. Most border crossings take 20–40 minutes depending on flight load.
